YMCA Victoria will continue to operate the Horsham Aquatic Centre (HAC) after winning a competitive tender process.
A three-year contract, with an option to extend the tender for two further three-year periods, was approved at Monday night’s Horsham Rural City Council meeting.
Mayor Cr Robyn Gulline said the aquatic centre was an important facility for the Horsham community and was pleased that a decision had been made on the facility’s future management.
“Since the facility was built in 2006, YMCA and Council’s partnership has helped deliver affordable swimming and leisure facilities that are accessible for all people,” Cr Gulline said.
“The centre is much more than a place to swim. It’s a meeting point where you can attend a wide range of health and wellbeing classes, have a fitness assessment, undertake a program, stay for tea and coffee and connect with community.”
YMCA Victoria Executive General Manager Recreation Alexandra Ash thanked Council for its continued support.
“The Y is deeply committed to the Horsham community, to support as many locals from all ages and stages of life to be more active more often.”
“Horsham locals can look forward to some exciting developments at Horsham Aquatic Centre including expanded programs, new gym equipment and the first Wibit Adventure zone with inflatable obstacles for the region,” Ms Ash said.
Cr Gulline said it had been a thorough and competitive tender process.
“Council’s vision for recreation is a healthier, more active community, which participates in a diverse range of recreational activities regardless of age, gender, ability and cultural background,” she said.
“We’re confident that YMCA Victoria will continue to deliver a high standard of service and innovation at the aquatic centre that will provide the best outcome for our community.
“As the YMCA is already operating these facilities there will be no transition impact on our users,” Cr Gulline said.
