Rainbow flag to fly high in Horsham

Horsham Rural City Council will recognise IDAHoBIT Day on May 17 by hoisting the rainbow flag in the municipality and through joining a Wimmera Pride Project breakfast.
IDAHOBIT is the international day against homophobia, biphobia, interphobia and transphobia discrimination.
Mayor Robyn Gulline said it was a day to come together and support LGBTIQ friends, family and colleagues in their fight against discrimination.
HRCC will fly the pride flag at the top end of Firebrace Street throughout next week.
On Tuesday morning the Wimmera Pride group will host a free public breakfast at May Park from 7am. Rainbow attire is encouraged but not mandatory.
“The purpose is to raise awareness of the discrimination faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, intersex, trans, queer or questioning and asexual (LGBTIQA+) community members and celebrate the richness that diversity brings to our lives. This year’s international theme is “Our Bodies, Our Lives, Our Rights,” Cr Gulline said.
“The breakfast was a terrific success last year and I look forward to seeing community members there on Tuesday morning.”
IDAHOBIT began in 2004 and is observed annually on 17 May to mark the date in 1990 when the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from the list of mental disorders.
Wimmera Pride is a volunteer organisation that supports the Wimmera LGBTIQ+ community by providing knowledge, resources and education.
