Testing of water samples from Green Lake has shown that it is again safe for recreation activities.

Council’s Director of Technical Services, John Martin said that test results received today, 24 January, have shown the level of blue-green algae has fallen well below the level where it is of concern to recreation uses.

“This has allowed Council to open the lake to swimming and boating,” he said.

The lake had been closed since early January when high blue-green algae levels were detected.

Council staff will continue to monitor the lake for the presence of toxic algae as more hot weather, conducive to algal growth is forecast for the week ahead.
