Firebrace Street fire: Update on impacted buildings and historic photo
Published on 31 October 2024
Following the devastating fire on Firebrace Street, Horsham Rural City Council is collaborating with building owners and insurers to ensure the site’s safety while developing plans for final cleanup and remediation.
Safety measures
To safeguard pedestrians, safety fencing has been installed around the footpath. This temporary measure redirects pedestrians to walk on the car park area, with an additional fence protecting them from traffic on Firebrace Street.
Consequently, several car park spaces have been temporarily closed.
Efforts are underway to reopen the footpath as soon as possible, at least partially, to restore pedestrian access and car parking.
However, this will only be practical once the verandah on the Exquisit building is deemed safe.
Short-term restrictions on footpath or vehicle access along Firebrace Street may be needed to allow the cleanup and repair works.
Reflecting on history
As the community works towards ensuring the site’s safety, it’s also a moment to reflect on the rich history of the building.
Thanks to the Horsham Historical Society, we can share some historical insights and photos of the building at 54 Firebrace Street. Over the years, it has housed various businesses, including:
