Renewable and mining projects
Renewable energy
The Grampians region is already a leader in renewable energy with major wind energy production.
SEC Renewable Energy Park - Horsham
The SEC is working with developer OX2 to build the energy park on Williams Road, which was previously known as Horsham Solar Farm.
Once operational in 2027, the facility will be capable of generating around 242,000 megawatt hours of renewable energy a year - enough renewable energy to power around 51,000 homes.
The project will create around 246 jobs over the construction period, including 20 roles for apprentices, trainees, and cadets.
The SEC will also support the local community through a $42,000 fund during the project’s construction, and a further $70,000 per year once the project is operational.

Mineral sands mining
The Wimmera region contain substantial amounts of fine grained heavy sands, providing the opportunity for a potentially long-term supply of zircon and rare earth minerals. The Wimmera region hosts three of the world’s six largest heavy mineral sand projects.
